Clouds, Gastineau Channel

Acrylic on Canvas 36″ x 24″

The wetlands between Juneau on the mainland and Douglas Island are Gastineau Channel. At low tide the part of the channel at the north of Douglas Island near the airport is rather shallow and is not navigable. Some of the tidelands have tall grasses and others are just mudflats briefly exposed.

We don’t seem to get these lovely big cumulus clouds all that often in Juneau, but we did on this day.  I had to teach myself to learn how to deal with these in a three dimensional manner.  I am an admirer of Maynard Dixon, he has some monumental vistas of the southwest with magnificent clouds.
